You play as Roxas and as you progress, you'll see what happened on the Organization XIII side while Sora was in Castle Oblivion (the game refers to the KH Chain of Memories events, so you would have to play that to get what's going on).
Now I was hooked until I got to around Day 97? (it was after the mission where you have to fight the Antlion Heartless). The thing that killed my interest was the missions. After a while, the missions started to get repetative (with objectives like "collect hearts", "do recon", etc). So far, I've been having to do missions in the same four places over and over again and I'm getting AWFULLY tired of having to search around Beast's Castle. There's pretty much less freedom in where you can go as you'll just be going back and forth between the Organization's headquarters and the specified worlds in missions.
There are a couple things that bother me. In the game, there is a panel system to customize Roxas's lvl, items, magic, and weapons. You start off with 15? open slots. To buy panels, you need Heart Points (which you gain from fighting Heartless of course; Munny is used for synthesizing items.) When you complete missions or purchase slot releasers, you'll gain more open slots. To increase your level, you have to equip level panels, which can take up an awful lot of slots unless you have what is called a link panel (which increase the effects or add more uses of the panel linked to it) to end up with more open slots for other panels. I still have not seen the purpose of being able to decrease and increase your levels yet. I'm assuming that there's about 120 possible slots you can have, since one page of slots has 40 and it looks like there's room for three pages of slots on the panel menu. So I'm thinking that level panels will take up some space, even with link panels.
Another thing that bothers me is the spazzy camera, though I guess that might be due to the DS controls (there are two modes of camera: one that lets you pan left and right using the L and R buttons and one that automatically adjusts the camera when you hit R). You'll often get close ups of Roxas's face instead of the back view of you attacking a Heartless and have to adjust the camera accordingly. But the rest of the controls I was fine with as I got used to them quickly.
Later on, you'll gain access to Challenges, in which you can earn sigils to redeem for special panels or items from the Moogle NPC. You can also earn crowns to redeem if you complete holo-missions. There's even a multiplayer mode for the challenges, which is nice if you want to compete with friends to see who gets the most points.
Overall, it's decent if you're a fan of Kingdom Hearts but the repetative missions may bore you to death after a while. The sprites look fuzzy (and it's weird seeing them talk with their mouths closed o__O) but the music sounds pretty clear and the CGI cutscenes look fine.
I'll eventually get back to playing it (I don't really feel like going on a recon mission with Xaldin because I don't wanna see Beast's Castle for the third time. GUH.) But for now I think I'll work on finishing The World Ends With You.
